The New Testament has many verses describing how, when any individual decides to become a Christian, they move from a relationship that does not include Christ to a new relationship where that individual is now spiritually "in Christ." Paul reminds Christians in Rome in his letter called Romans that as many who were baptized "into Jesus Christ" were essentially baptized "into Jesus' death." When buried in the waters of baptism, they were spiritually being buried "with Jesus" into His death so that they, when raised up from the water of baptism, should walk in newness of life. This is compared to Christ when He was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father. In these verses, the scriptures show that when baptized, there is a death to sin, burial in water, and being raised from the water to walk in newness of life, which is similar in a sense to the gospel message that Jesus died for our sins, was buried in a tomb, and was raised from the dead.
This bookmark also lists some New Testament verses that discuss how individuals are baptized into Christ and into His death and saving blood, resulting in 1) becoming a new creation, and 2) forgiveness of all sins through the grace and working of God.
